Ernest took pride in wearing his military dress at the request of his grandchildren and great grandchildren so they could see his medals.
Ernest joined the army in January 1942 aged just 19 and served with the Royal Warwickshire Regiment; his Colonel was Field Marshal Montgomery. Ernest was posted abroad and fought for our County; becoming badly injured on the 19th October 1944.
He was repatriated back to the UK and spent the next year and a half in hospital; his left arm being paralysed and his right leg being amputated above knee. Ernest was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal and the 1939-45 Medal. He was further awarded the Dutch Liberation Medal.
Ernest has many fascinating stories and is currently writing his memoirs supported by his son Alvin.
